Sourdough Bread Challenge with Jaffrey Hamelman’s book “Bread”
I came up with the easiest way to make sure you and I have freshly baked bread every week for our families. By baking sourdough bread!
There is nothing more challenging for a home baker and THE most satisfying feeling when you cut into that loaf.
But that does not happen very often in our daily lives because we all have excuses. I am the worst of the lot!
However, by taking this challenge along with me and by baking sourdough bread, your home will smell like freshly baked bread at least once a week.
In addition you would get to eat fresh and warm bread. Win Win!
One thing I did this year was to NOT make any resolutions.
Not only because I can’t keep them going for long, but I also have this firm conviction that they are very ambiguous.
I do however have a great weakness for challenges.
So I figured that If I have to make more bread this year, I should stimulate myself to make more bread!
But that does not make it any less intimidating.
It taught me the science of baking sourdough bread but most importantly it taught me to be an artisan at heart.
Long story short, I need more healthy bread in my life. Seriously!
I need to bake more often and get on with baking sourdough bread.
During these last few years, I did a lot of adventures stuff along with baking a loaf or two but the void and feeling of not doing enough were eating me.
It certainly made me realize that I am not exercising the knowledge I gained at school to its optimal potential.
That finally started a chain reaction.
In other words, I ended up doing a lot of research.
For instance, I looked for an existing bread challenge with a similar outline but there were none to partake.
However, I came across few from the last few years and decided to take an inspiration and jump right into it!
The social pressure these challenges create is immense, I know but I perform best when there is a deadline on my head.
Strange but true.
So this is what started Baking Sourdough Bread Challenge 2019. #Sourdoughchallenge2019
12 Loaves of bread
1 formula per week
Sourdough bread is made from natural fermentation and has no additives or preservatives.
There is nothing in the world more beautiful to see what simple ingredients like flour, water and salt can do when handled with love and patience in its own time.
For this challenge, I have chosen 12 formulas from Jeffrey Hamelman’s book ‘Bread’.
You can follow me on my Instagram to see every week’s bake along with the process in stories.
